childhood delight

without comments

Our little girl has a fascinating week interacting with different living things and nature. I suppose it’s mentally very stimulating for a child who turned two just last November.

On Saturday she gets to visit the zoo and seeing the real animals rather than the usual cartoons or stuff toys that she is more familiar with. We sat at the front row of the elephant exhibit where they have a show at stipulated time. We got splashed and Amanda loves it absolutely.

Yesterday we brought her to Pasir Ris fish farm where she gets to feed the koi fish up-close and personal, so to speak.  They were in schools (conditioned to go for food) whenever she waves the pellets of fish food above water.  The farm also had a enclosure with roosters, geese as well. So it was a new experience for her no doubt.

This morning we brought her to Changi Beach because Jismyl had a class outing to see ‘sand dollar’ – not sure what’s that.  Anyway Amanda was thrilled by the incoming sea waves – she exclaimed with sheer delight and excitement. I think that was the first time she gets so near the waters.  Such simple delight and wonder often seen only in children. Sometimes we grownups have that “been there; done that” mentality that nothing delights or excites us with wonderment anymore. Such pity!

I’m grateful to have this opportunity to witness and experience this phase of Amanda’s growth.  I also sighed at the thought of friends who worked hard to have a higher standard of living but not a more qualitative standard in terms of the intangible or intrinsic aspects of family life.

Thank you, Lord.
