Dad’s New Discovery
As Amanda grows older (she’s almost 2 ½ years now), she becomes more expressive both in terms of words, emotions and facial expressions. This fact dawn on me as I had told her we’ll be going to Auntie Katrina’s house for a swim today. So after lunch we all get ready to get out of the house but lo and behold, dark clouds began to gather.
I told her that if the weather gets worst and the rain comes along with lightning and thunder, we might have to forgo the swim today. She was utterly disappointed and you could it on her face! She wasn’t angry or upset but visibly disappointed. By the time we arrived at school where my wife teaches, Amanda was still having that mood.
When my wife saw her, she immediately asked “what’s wrong with her?” After I related the matter, she suggested that we make the trip nonetheless, and if weather still persists, and then she’d probably accept the fact and not be that disappointed. Well, bless her heart, my wife was right. With the clapping of thunder and flashes of lightning, Amanda was convinced that it wasn’t the right day for a swim. Happily she went on with her life and played with her cousin.
Amanda sure grows up fast; I just pray that we keep pace with her along with great dependence on God for wisdom in guiding her in life’s choices.
Ranting
Frankly, I am tired and frustrated by what’s going on in life. Tired because of a lack of sleep; frustrated because of lack of time to do my study; lack of fellowship steep in trust and godly objectivity. To top it off, frustrated by the self-preserving mindset of coworker who doesn’t seem to realize that what has been done for him is to his benefit and in his interests rather than mine or the corporate community of the saints. Even his good and gold friends have teased glaringly (nonetheless oblivious to this chap) that he has a private ministry of a public nature. Of course, those in the know realize it is a joke coupled with mockery that one that is in public ministry might overly guard his ministry that most if none knows what is going on. I suppose some people just don’t get it. Surely ethics dictates otherwise! Sometimes I wonder why one would desire a public ministry with obsessive compulsive craving for privacy?! Wrong applicant? Hmm.
Why the sweat? Maybe I should just follow him – a nonchalant attitude, or as the old-timer in SAF says “bor chap” and “act blur” until something serious crops up and then say, “why like that?” or “is it?”
>Then again, is that godly service? Sometimes the flesh says, give the fella what he ordered. What goes around comes around, heh? If that’s the case then life as the preacher says, is “vanity” or pointless endeavor. I’ll plod on and trust that in time, this fella will realize his stunted growth and do something about it; or that God will vindicate me before those who thought negatively of what I’m trying to do.
Sufficient ranting of the day is the evil thereof.
Arsenal FC revisited
After 6 consecutive defeats and dumped out of major competition, Arsenal is in morale crisis. Sheer elegance in build-up but failure to score at the end cost them dearly – out of European Championship, FA Cup, League Cup and possibly a 5th spot that might mean no Champions League next season.
Building on the belief of youth over experience, I believe Wenger is confronted with the realism that experience is that extra “oomph” that ensures the lasting distance. Experience is something that time and circumstances tempered into solid steel. The tenacity and gumption that keeps at it despite the odds.
That means, perhaps, one should learn to balance both youth and experience by learning to blend them together. That would be helpful
Too Good to be True
A couple of days ago at GIANThyper-mart parking lot, just as I was about to finish parking my car, a van pulled up and the bespectacled driver mumbled something both in dialect and Mandarin which I could hardly decipher. He then park his van next to mine and opened up his side door and showed me boxes of home theater sound systems.
He said he’s not selling stuff but getting rid of brand new merchandize with no strings attached. I became suspicious. While I like the idea of owning a home theatre system, I don’t want to implicated in anyway as accomplice to a burglary or theft or looting of nearby shop. I decline the guy’s offer and his partner laughed at the fact that I would pass up a wonderful opportunity to have new equipment. After trying to persuade me to take the merchandize FOC, they drove away, mumbling something beneath their breadth..
Why did i not take it? AFter all, it might be a real case of somebody wanting to dump off or offload excess stuff. For me, it can’t be real if somebody offer to give me a brand new home theater sound system with no strings attached. SOmebody once said, If something is too good to be true; then that thing is not good.
Besides, I have more to lose than anybody else. Firstly, what would people think of me the Pastor who was caught on tape accepting stolen goods? My testimony would be crushed. Secondly, common sense tells me that nobody would leave their valuables with strangers in a car. What if it is a police set-up and I walk right into an entrapment which I could get caught. Again my testimony goes down the toilet bowl.
Well, someone once said: “if somethings are too good to be true, then it’s too good to be true.”
I saw the vanstopping a short distance away from me and the same driver spoke to another person, who likewise agree.
